Selkirk’s fame continues to grow in the entertainment industry. Selkirk has been and continues to be a location where various TV shows and movies have chosen to film and who could blame them? The landmarks, locations, and buildings in Selkirk provide a unique feel to any TV show or movie.

Let’s see what has been filmed in Selkirk recently and what landmarks have been featured!

A documentary series on Amazon Prime titled Ghosts off Grid was filmed and released in 2024. In this series, two paranormal investigators Jordyn Penner and Johnny Wiebe of the Paranormal group Paranormies, travel to different locations throughout Canada and one location in the United States where they speak with residents to consult on local hauntings!

Jordyn and Johnny visit many destinations in the series’ single season. They travel to Fort La Reine in Saskatchewan, Hamilton House in Winnipeg, Playland Arcade in Winnipeg Beach, Camp Morton in Gimli and various other locations.

The series consists of 14 episodes primarily visiting different locations throughout Manitoba. Selkirk makes a unique appearance in Episode 8 where Jordyn and Johnny visit the Selkirk Bowling Centre. Released on October 15^th 2024, Jordyn and Johnny speak with the current owner Jay, to discuss the potential hauntings at Selkirk Bowling Centre.

Other well known Selkirk Landmarks that can be seen in the episode include Eveline Street, Main Street, The Selkirk Water Tower and of course the Waterfront!

Time Cut is a Sci-fi Thriller Netflix Original. The movie follows a character named Lucy (Madison Bailey, known for her roles in Outer Banks, Creepshow, Constantine) who accidentally discovers a time machine and travels back to the year 2003. This year is significant to her as this is the year her sister was murdered by an unknown serial killer. Lucy is faced with a dilemma of being torn between saving a sister she never knew, her parents and her town, and knowing her future will be altered, all while trying not to stand out in 2003.

Many of the scenes pertaining to the cityscape of Sweetly, Minnesota, were filmed in Selkirk! Notably, several scenes that were shot on the bridge such as one with police car driving across it and another of Lucy running.

Another iconic Selkirk monument you might see in this movie is the Marine Museum and Waterfront!

Champions is a film which began filming in 2021 and was released in 2023, is a sports comedy drama directed by Bobby Farrelly. The movie stars A-list actor Woody Harrelson who plays Marcus Marakovich who is a temperamental minor-league Basketball coach. The film follows Marcus who, after his arrest must coach a basketball team comprised of individuals with disabilities as part of his community service.

The film also contains other well-known actors like Cheech Marin (Cheech & Chong, Oliver & Company, Coco) who plays Julio, Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, The Crow, Leviathan) who plays Phil Perretti, and Mike Smith (Trailer Park Boys) who plays Attorney McGurk.

Other Selkirk landmarks that can be seen in this film is the Memorial Hall. In the film, this where the Basketball team featured in the film practices. Another recognizable location is the iconic Eaton Avenue, where Woody Harrelson’s character is picked up by one of his students and his sister. The well-known Riverboat Diner also makes an appearance in these scenes.
