B. Kovitz

B. Kovitz (Benjamin Kovitz) was a Lithuanian-born entrepreneur who fled Jewish persecution to build a nearly 40-year retail legacy in Selkirk. After opening a modest tailor shop in 1930, his business expanded into Kovitz Dry Goods and the popular Janis Lynn women’s apparel store, leaving a lasting mark on Manitoba Avenue and the town’s commercial history.

Selkirk Collegiate Institute / École Selkirk Junior High School / École Murray Sinclair Middle School

First built before 1913 on Sophia Street, Selkirk Collegiate Institute underwent several major expansions over the decades to serve the community’s growing student population. Following the relocation of high school students in 1971 and the introduction of a dual-track French Immersion program, the historic institution evolved into what is known today as École Selkirk Junior High School.
