Richard Johnstone

Richard “Dick” Johnstone (1901–1993) was a Scottish-born Second World War veteran who served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. A long-time Selkirk resident, he worked as a greenskeeper at the Selkirk Golf Course and later as a local handyman, while actively contributing to his community as a founding member and Grand Chieftain of the Manitoba Highland Gathering.

Charles A. Griffiths

Chronically remembered for his ultimate sacrifice, Charles A. Griffiths enlisted as an RCAF Lancaster bomber pilot at just 20 years old. During a perilous 1944 mission over Germany, he bravely stayed at the controls of his rapidly descending aircraft to allow his crewmates to parachute to safety, cementing his legacy as a heroic member of Selkirk’s historic Dufferin Gang.
